FAQs About Our Karate Classes
We Hear These Questions Most Often About Karate Classes:
I’M NOT IN VERY GOOD SHAPE; CAN I STILL TAKE KARATE CLASSES?
Certainly! You don’t have to be a Cross-Fit Fanatic or have 6-Pack Abs to be proficient at Kenpo. Self defense requires the right knowledge applied with the right technique; this can make anyone at any fitness level effective with the techniques we teach.
ISN’T KARATE JUST FOR KIDS?
Not at all. The word KARA-TE is a Japanese word that means, literally, ‘Empty Hand’. Karate is just a term used to describe any form of self defense that doesn’t use weapons (ie. knife, gun etc.) as the primary means of defense.
DO I NEED ANY PRIOR SELF DEFENSE TRAINING TO START?
Nope. In fact, the majority of new students we train have never taken any previous martial arts or self defense classes prior to coming to see us.
AM I TOO OLD TO BEGIN TRAINING?
No. You are never too old to learn how to defend yourself! This is one of the reasons we offer our Introductory Program; It will help you to see firsthand if you are ready for more advanced training in Kenpo.
DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR CLOTHING TO START THE INTRODUCTORY LESSONS?
Not at all. Anything you’re comfortable working out in is fine during the first three lessons. We’re not here to sell you martial arts equipment; we want you to learn how to defend yourself!
DO YOU OFFER ANY ‘FAMILY’ TRAINING PLANS?
Yes. If you study together in the same lesson, there is no additional charge for additional family members. If one family member is taking lessons, as long as you’re taking lessons in the same session; there’s no extra charge.
DOES YOUR STUDIO CHARGE A BELT TESTING FEE?
Absolutely not! If a student is prepared and ready to test for their next belt, it is our obligation to make sure there is no financial obligation that stands in the way of this. You don’t pay for your belt; you EARN it!
